DOJO ETIQUETTE
Dojo means “a place of the way” in Japanese. It is used to express a place to learn and train in martial arts such as aikido, judo, kendo…. However, it is not just a mere training place. The Dojo is a place where we discipline ourselves and improve ourselves to be a better person. Hence we always show respect and appreciation to the Dojo and the people in the dojo (e.g. friendly and respectful attitude, uniform clean and well kept, shoes are removed before stepping on the mat, talking is kept to a minimum …)
Bow when entering or exiting the Dojo. Bowing is a sign of respect and is a moment to reflect upon how fortunate we are to be able to train and brings us into respectful interaction with the Dojo.
